Sonya di campli
ceramic artist
Sonya Di Campli is an Italian–Australian ceramic artist whose practice combines traditional ceramic processes with research in mythology, symbolism and the history of objects. She began working in ceramics in 2016 after visiting the studio of a master ceramicist in Uji, Japan. She continued her training with master ceramicists in Melbourne and Rome, developing technical experience in handbuilding, slip casting, mould-making and wheel throwing.
In 2019 she founded Soli, producing durable functional ceramics designed for everyday use. From 2021 onwards she worked as a ceramics instructor in Melbourne and Rome, specialising in wheel throwing and technical skill development. Teaching remains a parallel component of her practice, reinforcing her focus on precision, craft and material understanding.
Soli was established in Rome in 2025 as a private working atelier and venue for small-group workshops.
Sonya’s current work centres on sculptural ceramics that integrate casting and additive construction. Her practice investigates how visual symbols and archetypes are transmitted across time and reinterpreted within contemporary culture. Religious and mythological iconography appears throughout her work as a way of tracing the continuity of shared narratives. Her sculptures position femininity as the central subject, expressed through material, symbolism and form.
